Step 2: Mask:
Mask all the areas of your kitchen that you do not want to paint with plastic sheets or painter’s tape.
Step 3: Clean the cabinets:
Wash the doors and drawers to remove grease. Don’t forget to wash both sides, front and back. Wash grease from the kitchen cabinet with warm water and dish detergent. Wash properly with water.
Step 4: Repair any problems seen:
Locate any damaged areas on the doors or cabinets. Fix the damages with the spackling compound. Apply the compound with a putty knife. Then sand the damaged areas with 320 grit sandpaper to remove burrs or ridges. Then wipe down the doors and cabinets with a tack cloth. Now with a paintbrush, apply a stain killing primer. Leave the doors and cabinets for drying after applying primer. The primer seals and covers any stains. After drying, lightly sand the doors and cabinets again. And wipe the surface with a tack cloth.
Step 5: Pain the frames using a brush:
Pour a gallon of paint into a bucket and mix half a cup of water to make it thin. Also, add a half a quart of floetrol paint additive. Adding water and floetrol can level the paint and slow the drying process. Thus, helps to get rid of brush and lap marks and provide a more even coat while spraying.
Start painting from the corner of the cabinet frames. For best cabinets, you can use gloss or semi-gloss latex enamel paint. As they are hard and shiny, and they resist stains and fingerprints. Paint the entire rail, stile or trim before moving to the next part.
Step 6: Spray painting kitchen cabinets:
Now to contain the airborne spray, construct a makeshift. Make a workspace and plastic sheet around the work area. Make sure the room is ventilated.
Fill the sprayer with the mixed paint. Now before painting test the spray pattern on cardboard. Keep the nozzle 10 to 12 in. while testing. To get a feel for the sprayer, you can practice spraying on the cardboard.
Now if you are ready, place the door on a turntable and start spray painting. Don’t forget to keep the nozzle 10 to 12 in. from the door. At first finish painting on the edge and detail work on one side then start with the other sides.
Dry the paint overnight. Then paint the cabinet frames, sides and trim a second coat.
Now, for painting the drawers, at first wrap the inside of the drawer using plastic or paper. At first, paint the back of the drawer. Then paint the edges. Paint the faces starting from the top to the bottom.
If the paint run, fix the paints using a paintbrush while they are still wet. Dry the paint of the drawers overnight. Then give them a second coat.
After the paint is dry, reinstall the doors and drawers. At first, attach the hinges to the door, then screw them to the cabinet of the kitchen.
